Description:

Responsible to the CNO and Clinical Operations and/or the CEO for facilitating, coordinating, and delegating the delivery of patient care to a defined group of patients. Will be responsible 24 hours a day for the staffing and management of patient care in the ED Department, for promoting the practice of professional nursing in a specified patient care area, and for the acquisition, development, and utilization of resources (human and material) needed to fulfill those responsibilities.

  • Builds and maintains a high functioning team. Provides leadership and direction for staffing their unit(s) in accordance with the organizational goals and objectives. Identifies modifications in staffing based on patient acuity and census.
  • Plans, organizes, facilitates, and directs patient care delivered in the ED department on a 24-hour basis.
  • In addition, the Nurse Manager is responsible for several administrative responsibilities, including performance improvement, staff development, policy and procedure initiation and updating, and strict adherence to regulatory requirements related to accreditation. The Nurse Manager will provide skills training for all new nursing staff to assure competency and maintain a high standard of care, work with all divisions to provide additional training as needed, provide nursing coverage in emergency situations to maintain patient safety and assure all nursing staff is working within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Through collaboration with Trauma Services faculty/staff, responsible for documentation of the trauma performance improvement (PI) process, ensuring on-going quality of care delivered to the injured patient from admission through patient disposition and follow-up. Manages and maintains security of the Trauma Outcomes database. Obtains and analyzes information to develop new or modify existing PI initiatives. Creates customized reports based on analyses of data for dissemination and makes recommendations to improve the quality of trauma care and outcomes. Utilizes state and national benchmarks to determine trauma care standards. May serve as facilitator/leader of process improvement efforts.

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Associate Degree in Nursing or RN Diploma Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Preferred
  • 1+ years applicable experience preferred
  • Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Current license to practice professional registered nursing in the state of Texas
  • Current BLS, PALS, ACLS, NRP, and TNCC certifications
