Pearsall’s Frio Regional Hospital will celebrate its 55th anniversary on Thursday, January 18 with a Community Open House and recognize Shirley Schneider Wilson, the first baby born at the hospital.
The event runs from 4 to 6 p.m. and will include recognition of Schneider Wilson, who was born at the hospital on January 1, 1963 and provide the community an opportunity to learn about new services offered at the facility. Long-tenured employees of the hospital also will be honored.
"The hospital had to open two days early for the delivery of Mrs. Wilson, whose parents, the late Frank and Evelyn Schneider, were long-time Pearsall residents," FRH CFO Tom Grimert said. "Mrs. Wilson, who now lives in Horseshoe Bay, also was the first baby of the New Year."
"Since our doors opened in 1963, we have been growing to keep up with the health care needs of our residents," FRH CEO Andy Williams said. "It has been our pleasure to use these innovations to improve the quality of life in our community. Today we offer medical testing, labor and delivery services, a 24-hour full-service emergency room and other health care advances that our 1963 team could only have dreamed about."
During the event, visitors will learn about new colonoscopy and endoscopy services and state-of-the-art imaging technology.
"Now our patients will have access to these services close to home," Williams said. Frio Regional Hospital is in partnership with Methodist Healthcare of San Antonio.
