Pain management

Is pain keeping you from moving freely and living fully? If so, pain management treatments at Frio Regional Hospital can help you find relief—so you can return to your routine as quickly as possible.

Here's a look at two types of therapy we offer at Frio Regional Hospital that may be helpful for you.

Lumbar epidural steroid injections

Your doctor may advise these treatments if you have pain that spreads from your lower spine to your hips or down a leg. This pain is triggered by pressure on a nerve as it leaves the spine, often because of a bulging disc.

These spinal injections deliver anti-inflammatory steroid medicine and anesthetic directly into the space outside of the sac of fluid around your spinal cord. This area is called the epidural space. The medicine decreases swelling and pressure on the larger nerves around your spine, which could help to ease pain.

Trigger point injections

This type of injection is used to help soothe muscle pain, particularly in your arms, legs, lower back and neck. Doctors may also use these injections to help people dealing with fibromyalgia, tension headaches or some forms of chronic pain.

These injections treat "trigger points"—painful knots in your muscles that form when muscles don't relax. You might be able to feel these knots when you rub a muscle.

Injecting small amounts of anesthetic and steroid into a trigger point can ease pain. And usually, a brief course of treatment will bring sustained relief.

Expert care, short wait times

You can be assured of friendly, helpful care as well. And you can count on short waits for procedures—we want you to feel your best without delay.
